Woes of the Respectable: Lessons from Jesus’ Outrage — 6th Week — Day 3 — Great Lent

Scripture Reading: Luke 11:45–52

Key Verse:

“And He said, ‘Woe to you also, lawyers! For you load men with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.’” (Luke 11:46)

Meditation:

Christ warns us against hypocrisy that burdens others without showing compassion. The lawyers prided themselves on strict interpretations yet overlooked mercy. Jesus invites us to examine our hearts, ensuring our faith is genuine and freeing. True devotion flows from love, not heavy rules. By embracing humility, we reflect God’s grace and lighten the load for those around us.

Early Church Fathers’ Saying:

“Sin is a burden, as the psalmist affirms… This burden the Savior bore for us”— St. Jerome

Practical Practice:

Today, find one overburdened colleague and offer genuine help. A small act of support reveals Christ’s love.
